Goony Thread Needed?
#1
It seems the term "Goony" is somewhat common throughout the hobby.

I was wondering if the Rocketry Center would do well to add a category by that name, or if Odd Rockets is broad enough to cover that?

I think the Goony segment of the hobby is a lot more narrow than people realize. Those of us who love them REALLY love them, while others are just puzzled. A separate forum has been tried before elsewhere, and withered on the vine. If you build them and want to show them off, those of us who are interested will sniff them out.

I've done two, most recently the Honest Goon (decals and plans from Sandman):

and before that, I once found myself with a Baby Bertha kit and a spare set of Patriot fins, so I built a Patrioony:

I have a set of Nike-G decals from Sandman but haven't built one yet.

I don't think of Goonies as odd-rocs. Odd-rocs to me are things that pretty much don't look like rockets — flying potatoes, heads, porta potties — or are fundamentally different from a 3FNC for instance by lacking fins (tail cone stabilization, etc.) or a body tube (saucers) or that sort of thing. Goonies are a distinct kind of rocket but strip away the silly decor and they're (usually) very much conventional models.
